Val d’Aran, in the Pyrenees, is a paradise for mountain bike and enduro enthusiasts. Among its many trails, the Antecada descent stands out as one of the most iconic and challenging. With a vertical drop of 1,670 meters over 43 km, this route offers a unique combination of alpine landscapes, beech forests, and technical descents that put even the most experienced bikers to the test.

What is La Antecada?
La Antecada is an enduro route that starts at the Portillón, near the French border, and descends all the way to the village of Es Bòrdes. The itinerary includes demanding climbs, hike-a-bike sections, and dizzying descents along natural trails. It’s a route that combines all aspects of enduro: pedaling, carrying the bike, and technical downhills.
The Descent Experience
The descent of La Antecada is an unforgettable experience. It begins with a climb through a trail crossing centuries-old fir forests, followed by a technical singletrack that winds through alpine meadows. As the descent continues, the terrain becomes more demanding, with rocky sections and roots requiring skill and focus. At the end of the descent, riders arrive at a spectacular meadow that offers a moment of respite before reaching Es Bòrdes.
Logistics and Services
To do the Antecada route, it’s recommended to have the support of local companies that offer shuttle and guide services. At Nomad School, in collaboration with the Specialized bike shop in Vielha, we offer a shuttle service that includes uplifts at Enduromies and Bassa d’Oles, allowing bikers to enjoy several descents in one day.
Additionally, if needed, we guide your route and take you from Vielha to the starting point at the Portillón, ensuring a safe and well-organized experience.
Recommendations
The Antecada route is designed for bikers with enduro experience. It’s important to bring a suitable bike, preferably an enduro or all-mountain model, and be prepared for technical and demanding sections. Protective gear such as a full-face helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads is also strongly recommended to ensure safety along the trail.

This is our recommendation for the Antecada descent, one of the most spectacular and challenging routes in the Aran Valley. It offers a unique combination of nature, technical riding, and adventure that makes it a must for mountain bike lovers.
